healthy living - mind, body, and soul

Hey there! When I talk about living a healthy lifestyle, it includes taking good care of myself – mind, body, and soul. And hopefully it means the same to you! Earlier this week I discussed my ”Alignment Time” which is a healthy routine for my mind and for finding my happiest place inside. So for today, I’m dropping in with some fitness info, which is not only for my body, but also for my mind. Probably actually more so for my mind! It all works together, my friends.

I began doing yoga somewhere between 2007 and 2008, and I did that pretty much every day for quite some time – specifically, this yoga DVD.  And I’ve been working out regularly since probably 2010, I want to say. Could’ve been 2011, but who’s counting? It’s a part of my every day, and I LOVE it. It’s not a chore or this thing “I have to do”. Noooo, I WANT to do it. And I GET to do it. I’m super grateful for my body and what it’s capable of, and so I treat it as such. Which includes eating good, healthy food as well.

Basically, I workout regularly, I do yoga, and I take a walk in the evening. Some days I might do all 3, some days I do my morning workout and nothing else. Other days I might choose to just do yoga, or take an evening walk. Either way, I’m doing some combination of those activities. I also ensure I take a rest day once a week, sometimes more. It really just depends.

And then there are times when my body is simply tired, so I choose to rest and do nothing – even if it’s for a few days, maybe even a week. Rest and recovery is so important and I’m learning this more and more. I am a go-go-go type of person, always pushing myself, but sometimes I have to remind myself that it’s okay to slow down, to rest. Why? Because it’s hugely important for my body and for me to be able to REST, so that I can keep up with my routine. Otherwise, it’s easy to begin dreading it…because you’re pounding the pavement with no end in sight and that’s exhausting, not exhilarating. Sometimes less is more!

Okay, friends – let’s take a look at some of my favorites, the people who inspire me the most.

Yoga – For the mind, body, and soul

Yoga with Adriene

I’ve completed all of her 30-day challenges several times. I’ve even done two different ones at the same time, alternating them, to complete 60 days of yoga. My mind loves a good challenge! I’ve also done a majority of her other videos.

I’ve only ever done the ones with Cole Chance because she’s the one I was drawn to. She has an incredibly story and I admire her and respect her for it. This is my favorite morning yoga video.

And speaking of Cole…

Om Yoga Tribe

This is Cole Chance’s new yoga channel on YouTube. If yoga is your thing, you should follow her on Instagram @colechanceyoga – so beautiful! She’s currently living in Bali, which is #goals! You’ll find me there one day. 😊

Yoga by Candace

I found her on YouTube quite some time ago, and have done some of her videos. I love that she incorporates strength training as part of her yoga experience because it’s a favorite of mine. She also has a pretty incredible personal story. I admire her strength and perseverance.

Workouts – Mind + Body

Fitness Blender

I live and breathe this YouTube channel. I discovered Fitness Blender maybe about 1½ years ago, or something like that. I super LOVE their workouts and programs. Because of them, I no longer have a gym membership – I just workout from home. Yayyy! Nothing against the gym, I love me a gorgeous workout space. And I’d eventually love to work with a personal trainer to learn proper form for lifting heavy, so I’ll get back into a gym at some point. But otherwise, these are my people. Oooh, and I have these weights – so exciting!

I’ve completed the following Fitness Blender Programs:

  • FB Abs – Round 2
  • FB Booty – Round 2 + FB Flex (at the same time, alternating days)
  • Currently working on FB Bored Easily

I look forward to working out with more of their programs. One, they’re effective. Two, I super love having my workouts planned for me, as I used to take about 30 minutes each day to plan my workout for the next day.

She’s crazy amazing! Emphasis on the crazy – haha! Some of her videos straight kick my butt. Below are a few of my favorites.

  • 5 Minute Flat Abs
  • Extreme Abs 3
  • Lift Your Booty Workout
  • Plie Squat Challenge…and SO many more!

And lastly, here are some ladies I follow in Instagram for inspiration. #goals

If you’ll notice a theme here…I’m clearly all about supporting strong, inspirational women! Plus Daniel from Fitness Blender! Haha, cannot forget him – his workouts are killer!

So, you tell me – one day or day one? The best part is that…YOU decide!

Disclaimer: I am not a personal trainer. These are simply some of my favorite people that I follow and workout with on my own. I am in no way recommending you do the same workouts as I do.
